Insulating a garage is important to keeping the temperatures inside regulated. Stable temperatures in a garage are not only good if you’re using it as an extra living space, but they can also be beneficial for storage purposes as well. Not allowing a garage to get too hot or too cold provides protection for things like aerosols, paint, bikes, and other objects that you may store in your garage.

If you’re interested in learning how to control the temperatures in your garage by yourself, a garage door insulation kit will make installation easy and straightforward. To learn more about just how simple this DIY project is, read on to learn more.

Can I Insulate My Garage Myself?

While insulating a garage by yourself can seem intimidating, it’s actually not as hard as it looks. And with our garage door insulation kit, insulating your garage on your own might surprise you as to how simple it is.

How Thick Should My Garage Door Insulation Be?

The thickness of your garage door’s insulation can vary depending on the material of the insulation you choose. Foam insulation can run anywhere from ½ inch to 1 inch thick. Meanwhile, reflective insulation is very effective without being so thick and averages about 5/16 of an inch thick.

How to Insulate a Garage Door

To insulate your garage door, follow these easy steps:

  • Measure and Mark the Door

The first thing you need to do is measure your door panels so that you know how you’re going to cut your insulation. Next, you should mark the spots on each panel where you will fix your adhesive of choice.

  • Place Adhesion

Next, you’ll need to fix the adhesive to the places you marked on the door.

  • Cut the Insulation

After you’ve measured the door panel and placed the adhesive materials, you’ll need to cut the insulation to fit the door panels. With our DIY Garage Door Insulation Kit, you can skip this step completely, as the insulation comes pre-cut to fit your garage door.

  • Place Insulation into Door Panels

Once your insulation is cut to fit the panels, you’ll need to place it into the door panels and tuck the sides under the edges of each panel. If you’re using reflective insulation, remember that the foil side goes toward the door.

  • Fasten to Adhesive Tape

Finally, you need to fasten the insulation to the adhesive mechanism. If you’re using high-temperature tape, you simply need to push against the insulation. If using retention clips, you’ll need to fasten those together.
