Does this sound familiar, ”Honey, will you grab me the screwdriver?” My response has typically been in the past, ”Where is it?” If you can imagine that said while giving him a huge sigh. Which is followed by a short response of, “It’s in the toolbox.” Like I should know. Yet that response isn’t specific enough for me! If anyone had ever seen my husband’s toolbox it was not the easiest place to find anything, especially since it was dirty and disorganized.

Our problems with keeping tools and power tools neat, organized, and easily accessible has been solved by using the Bullet Board metal pegboard. I know my husband was extremely excited to get his on the wall. He played around with where to put the hooks, and had trouble deciding what was important enough to hang on the Bullet Board metal pegboard. Now when asked to grab a tool in order to assist my husband, or for myself ☺, I know exactly where it’s at and find that it’s much easier to put it back in its home, for both of us. The only problem that now lies is that we need more Bullet Board pegboards. I love it in the garage, but could use one in the shed for my gardening tools. It is very easy to put up, and I have found that you can arrange the materials on the board whichever way best suits your needs. The hooks are extremely durable, yet easy to take out and move around if need be. We chose to hang ours vertically, but it could be hung any way you’d like. It doesn’t take up much wall space at all, and has created an organized, clean feel.

Thinking of the upcoming holiday, do yourself a favor and buy a Bullet Board metal pegboard from us for any special dad out there who needs a little help (unknowingly to him) keeping organized. While you’re at it, purchase two! You could place any of your many hobbies or jobs materials on it! The possibilities are really endless with Bullet Board pegboards.

What is a tubular skylight?

Tubular skylights are energy efficient high performance lighting systems that are cylindrical in shape and are designed to light up rooms with natural sunlight. A small clear dome on the roof allows sunlight to enter into a highly reflective “light pipe” that extends from the roof level to the ceiling level. The light pipe is coated with silver, in a mirror quality finish, that allows the full spectrum of sunlight to be channeled and dispersed evenly into a room through a diffuser located in the ceiling. Tubular skylights are designed not to compromise roof integrity. They are designed to minimize the size of roof penetrations and totally eliminate the chance of leaks with their weather-tight installation.

Why tubular instead of traditional skylights?

Tubular skylights emit more light per given area, because of the high reflectivity of the mirror-like light pipe.

Tubular skylights are far more energy efficient. The cylindrical design minimizes the area for direct light to enter and heat up the area and the thin light pipe radiates any collected heat into the attic area. Since the light pipe acts as a sealed shaft, very little heat escapes up the light pipe, whereas a tremendous amount of heat rises up the large shaft of traditional skylights. What this means is that there is no heat loss or gain in your room because of our tubular skylight.

Tubular skylights scatter 100% of the natural light spectrum through the use of a diffuser, thereby eliminating the spot light effect common with the traditional system. 99% of harmful UV rays are absorbed by the tubular skylights special dome, light pipe and diffuser material, thereby eliminating the bleaching effect of UV rays on rugs and furniture.

Tubular skylights are far more economical. A tubular skylight can be installed in less that two hours – a fraction of the time it takes to install a traditional skylight. No painting, no frame work and no drywall required for installation of a tubular skylight.

Natural Light Energy System Tubular Skylight Components:

The Flashing
Our flashing is constructed of heavy gauge aluminum with no seams, and its round shape minimizes damage to roof shingles during installation and enables it to withstand the stresses of expansion and contraction due to the temperature variations. The flashing is extremely important, as it is responsible for keeping your roof from leaking. It is exposed to the harsh effects of the environment on a daily basis. Our competitors use cheaper grade galvanized materials or plastic with tack welded or rolled seams. Our unique forward sloping flashing design eliminates the use of light robbing elbows that the competition uses in almost all applications. Our pitched flashing is designed to accommodate installations to standard ceilings from a pitched roof. Our flat flashing is designed to accommodate pitched roof to cathedral ceiling or installation on a flat roof.

The Dome
The dome allows for the sunlight to enter into the light pipe and it too is subject to the extremes of the environment. Our dome is constructed of hi-impact UV stabilized acrylic that is twice as thick as our competitors. Unlike most of the competition our low profile appearance allows the skylight to blend into the surrounding roof structure. Most importantly, our dome is rolled into a stress absorbing seamless aluminum collar, which evenly exerts the pressure caused by expansion and contraction due to temperature effects over the dome. All our competitors attach their dome directly to the flashing which stresses the dome at the contact points. The dissimilar materials of the dome and collar react to temperature effects differently, causing stress cracks to develop in the domes of our competitors.

Light Pipe
Manufactured by the leading firm in the industry, our light pipe is one of the best performing in the industry. Most of the competition uses cheaper grade, thinner gauge or less reflective light pipe. Our light pipe is assembled at installation, with three securing methods, ensuring a tight, dust free seal. We include four feet of light pipe in each kit, for a usable pipe run of 40″. Additional lengths of pipe can be purchased and added to your shipment if required.

Trim Ring and Diffuser
The trim ring and diffuser assembly is the only piece in the entire kit that the homeowner sees on a daily basis, and it’s the only item that the homeowner will ever touch. Our trim ring is constructed of seamless aluminum and is powder coated white in color. All of our competition offer plastic trim rings, and many have unsightly plastic tabs that hold the ring in place. Our diffuser snaps neatly into place for ease of cleaning, yet it provides a tight seal to ensure no heat loss up the light pipe. It’s constructed of hi-impact acrylic, which makes it virtually unbreakable. Our standard diffuser is designed with a small arc that provides even light distribution without spotlight effects. Our competition offers primarily flat diffusers that are brittle and is not able to spread the light out as far. Alternative diffusers are available for you to customize your installation for the desired light distribution in the room.

Prismatic Diffuser
The prismatic diffuser’s surface contains several small prisms to help spread natural light evenly throughout the room. Prismatic diffusers will put out the brightest, natural looking light.

White Diffuser
The white diffuser’s surface is smooth and evenly spreads a softer tone of light. White diffusers put out less light than the prismatic diffusers and they look similar to a white florescent light.

Other Options

We offer several options to enhance our products.

The Super Vent Fan available for the 10″ kit provides a combination bathroom ventilation and lighting system, constructed of an all aluminum cowling that surrounds the trim ring of the skylight. The fan that exhausts the air is the quietest fan on the market and provides 125 cfm of air exchange, which is more than twice what typical bathroom vents provide. We offer an easy to install light kit that provides light through the tubular skylight during the evening hours.

The Electric Dimmer Kit allows 90% reduction in the light brought into the room to allow use of the tubular skylight in a bedroom or family room with a media center where you might want to decrease the amount of light sometimes. They are available in all sizes and use a standard electric outlet in the attic space and a remote controller to operate and vary the light.

How do I know what size I need?

We carry four different diameter skylights which put out an increasing amount of light the larger they are. Natural Light has 10″, 13″, 18″, and 21″ diameter units. Keep in mind – bigger is not always better! Remember, if you have any questions at all please don’t hesitate to contact us and we will respond promptly.

The 10-inch tube lights up a room of 150 sq. feet or less, putting out 330 watts of light. It is ideal for use in most bathrooms, hallways, walk-in closets, pantries, and laundry rooms. It is by far the most common size purchased and used by the homeowner.

The 13-inch tubular skylight lights up an area between 150-250 sq. feet, for 500 watts of light. (It has the same size light pipe and performs the same as the “14 inch units our competitors advertise.) This size is most commonly used in kitchens, living rooms, family rooms, foyers, and garages.

The 18-inch sky tube will light up an area of 300 – 500 sq. feet, putting 750 watts of light, and is best for rooms with vaulted ceilings, family rooms, living rooms, “great rooms”, and garages.

The 21-inch tube light, lighting up 500 – 700 sq. feet, is recommended for commercial flat roof applications only.

Most fans are designed for homeowners and are marketed to be both useful and decorative. However cooling fans are also very useful in commercial and induatrial settings, where powerful, efficiency, and reliability are often far more important than appearance. Many manufacturers offer fans specifically tailored to commercial and commercial settings.

The biggest difference between commercial and residential fans is that commercial fans operate with less blades at much faster speeds. This allows for a much greater degree of airflow more efficiently. Curved and/or sculpted blades also create an airflow pattern designed to better circulate larger areas and higher s. Commercial fans usually do not have a switch or speed control attached to the fan body and are designed to be operated from a wall control. Most are not light kit adaptable.

So can commercial fans be used in a residential setting? Because of the high speeds and metal blades, commercial fans are not designed to be mounted less than 10 feet from the floor. Some manufacturers offer molded plastic blades as an alternative. Also, when used on higher speeds, commercial fans are prone to “wind” noise. With commercial fans is, noise is less of a factor than in residential situations. A 3 blade fan operating at a high speed is often quite noisy– not a buzz or hum, but the helicopter noise of air moving. The greater number of blades and the slower the speed, the less noisy a fan will be. This is why residential fans (especially smaller models that operate at higher speeds overall) offer as

This is more of a factor on high speeds than on lower speeds, if you rarely use your fans on high this may not be a factor. So . . . in areas with high ceilings where extra circulation and/or a more powerful fan is needed, and where lighting and aesthetics are not necessary from the fan, commercial fans can be a very good option. Also for areas like covered porches, garages, and workshops, where the fan will be more exposed to the elements, dust, and dirt, and where wood blades may warp, commercial fans provide a much more powerful and efficient alternative to plastic blade “porch fans”.

Many different companies offer commercial/commercial fans over a drastically varying price range. Inexpensive models can be had for as little as $30, up to over $2000+ for heavily sealed models designed for agricultural applications. Unlike residential fans, where appearance and brand name are as much factors in price as is performance, with commercial fans essentially you pay more for better quality. The cfm rating is the most important factor in comparing fans, this is the direct measurement of air moved (cubic feet per minute). Commercial fans vary from 10,000 to 40,000 cfm (a quality residential fan will move ~8000 cfm) depending on make and manufacturer. Most manufacturers offer full spec sheets on commercial models for comparison.

There are many different speed control options as well, including those that can operate 10 fans or more from one control. Unlike residential fans, most commercial fans can be safely operated by a Solid State variable speed control, however this can still create motor noise in some situations. Some fans include a transformer or capacitor stepped control that provides silent speed selection for individual fans.

In commercial and commercial applications, fans are used just as much for heat destratification as for cooling. Most installations have particularly high ceilings and poor heat circulation. Heat rises and so fans are used to recirculate warm are back down to ‘people level’. Circulation also speeds evaporation and prevents mold, mildew, and condensation.

Due to blade design, commercial fans can be mounted on higher ceilings without requiring long down rod extensions. Most fans include a 12″ down rod, some also include optional longer and shorter down rods for varying ceiling heights. For ceilings 40′ and higher special blade designs are recommended to ensure floor level circulation.

How Does the ECO PRO Energy Savings System work?

ECO PRO fine tunes the electrical system from the inductive load equipment back through the utility company’s electric meter, kilowatt hour meter (kWh) or demand meter. This fine tuning slows down the operation of the meter, reduces the amount of power drawn from the utility and therefore saves on electricity consumption. The ECO PRO stores the reactive power to create the electromagnetic field (EMF) around the inductive windings of a motor by storing in its capacitors. As motors operate, reactive power is “pulled” and “pushed” to and from the ECO PRO by the motor at 60 cycles/second. The ECO PRO stores and releases what the motors need to function more efficiently. This unique approach reduces the heat generated on the lines and therefore reduces the strain placed on all the electrical components so they actually will increase their life expectancy. Electricity that is normally pushed back through the power distribution lines is now reclaimed and recycled by the ECO PRO. The ECO PRO reclaims stores, recycles and supplies power to all inductive loads. As you have already paid for this electricity, why waste a percentage of your investment. With the ECO PRO, energy can be stored and used when needed. This whole process is called energy optimization.

What is an inductive load?

Inductive loads use magnetic fields, i.e., motors, solenoids, and relays. If it moves, it’s probably an inductive load. Some examples of inductive motors are air conditioning units, refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, dishwashers, pool pumps, vacuum cleaners, furnace blower motors, computer fans, ceiling fans, well pumps, etc.

What is Power Factor?

Power factor is the percentage of electricity that’s delivered to your home or business and used effectively, compared with what is wasted. For example, a 1.0 power factor means that all the electricity that’s being delivered to your home is being used effectively for its purpose. However, most homes in America today have less than a .76 power factor. This means that approximately 76% of the electricity that is coming through your meter at your home or business that you are paying for is being used effectively; the other 24% that you are still paying for is being wasted by the inductive loads. So if your building has a low power factor, the utility has to deliver more electricity to be able to allow you to do the same work. However, the ECO PRO increases that Power Factor above a .96 in most cases, thus increasing the effective use of your electricity, reducing the amount of electricity supplied and therefore saves you money.

How can I reduce the primary power factor surcharge penalty?

Most utility companies charge large commercial and industrial customers an additional fee, (up to 25% more), when their power factor is less than 85% (0.85). Companies can now avoid this additional fee by determining to an exact science how much capacitance is needed to optimize each motor to unity. Electricians are trained to properly size the inductive loads and install the ECO PRO systems at each motor. This proven method also eliminates the primary power factor penalty charge as well optimizing each motor to obtain maximum savings and utilization of the electricity purchased. No primary power factor correction capacitors or capacitor buildings are therefore needed.

Can the ECO PRO be installed in every home or business?

Yes, as long as you have a circuit breaker panel with breaker switches and not the old screw in type fuses. Most homes use single phase. ECO PRO has systems for 100, 200 and 400 amp single phase electrical panels. All systems are approved for indoor or outdoor installations. (Proper sizing may be the superior method for some abnormal applications)

Are there 3-phase ECO PRO for commercial applications?

Yes. Systems are available for 3 phase 200 and 400 amp panel mount applications, as well as for the more commercial applications as utilized in large induction motor assemblies. These larger three phase motors would generally have the ECO PRO installed at the motors’ disconnect, after first having trained electricians carry out an individual sizing of the respective motors. This exact science enables the commercial customer to achieve the quickest return on investment (ROI).

Will the ECO PRO affect any of my appliances, motors and their normal use?

Yes, most certainly but only in a positive way. Dirt and heat are the natural enemies of motors, and the ECO PRO stores and then releases more accurately the power needed to allow the motors to function more efficiently, and in so doing reduces power surges, reduces the harmful effects from electro-magnetic fields and in so-doing increases the life expectancy of motors and appliances.

How long will the ECO PRO last?

With the exceptional quality and high standard of components used, coupled with the fact that there are no moving parts, predicted lifespan is 25 years.

Why haven’t I heard of this product until now?

In reality, one could say smugness and cost effectiveness have driven the American market place into a state of complacency. Until recently, people have been content in the SUV, V-8 engine and wasting fuel era. There was little desire to “tighten” our energy belts due to the relatively low costs of petroleum products and electricity. However, reality is beginning to catch up and as the whole world is scrambling to save energy and reduce costs in every way possible, resulting in major marketing efforts being employed to highlight the benefit of these new “Green” technologies; hence the ECO PRO.

Does the ECO PRO offer Surge Protection?

Yes, the ECO PRO also protects the entire home against power surges, and provides a broad range of protection for hardwired appliances and most home electronics such as televisions, satellite equipment, entertainment systems, etc. The unit protects from power line surges as well as spikes caused by internal wiring problems, loose connections and fluctuating demand from large motors such as appliances, vacuum cleaners, heating and cooling equipment, etc.

Is the ECO PRO Unit Warranted?

Yes, 5 year Manufacturers Warranty for full replacement, even if the systems are affected by lighting surges.

Who should install ECO PRO unit?

Panel systems are easily installed within approximately 30 minutes by a qualified electrician, which we recommend. Each system comes complete with installation instructions.

Can the ECO PRO panel units be taken with you when moving from your home or business?

Yes. On single and three phase panel systems, the unit can be relocated to another similar panel configuration although if the panel unit was left in place it would add a selling benefit to the new owner because of the added energy conservation.

How do the Utility Company’s benefit and do they agree with power factor optimization?

The ECO PRO improves the efficiency of the electrical system and the capacity of the existing distribution system is increased. Since no one wants a power plant in their neighborhood, power companies can now supply power to more customers without the generation or acquisition of additional power. They can reduce capital expenditures by leveraging the existing infrastructure.

How is the environment benefited by using the ECO PRO?

There is less fossil fuel being used to generate power and it decreases of dependency on foreign oil. Climate change is a Global crisis. Planetary distress is our new reality. Energy efficiency is a commitment worth making. You help meet the planetary requirements and reap the financial savings.

The ECO PRO Energy Saving System increases power factor, by reducing the amount of reactive power (kVAR) that the load draws from the utility company. ECO PRO Energy Saving System store the reactive power (kVAR) needed for the creation of the EMF within the inductive load. As the motor operates, this reactive power is “pulled” and “pushed” to and from the ECO PRO Energy Saving System by the motor. The amount of reactive power purchased from the utility company by power factor optimization has been greatly reduced, or eliminated.

Are you looking to put an end to those dark rooms in your home? One of the quickest and easiest ways to light up that room is by installing a tubular skylight. In less than two hours you will have a nice light and bright room filled with the beauty of natural light. And, it is not costly! The 10” tubular skylight is very effective (300 watts) in lighting up bathrooms, master closets, hallways, laundry rooms and kitchens. The tubular skylights that we sell offer options such as light kits for evening lighting, a combined skylight ventilation system for a bathroom, and yes, even a damper system to block the light out if you so desire. Solar light is free, take advantage of this and state tax incentives and we will install your skylight today.

Daylight, the natural light, in homes is very beneficial. Our skylight does NOT bring in harmful UV light that could fade carpets or upholstery, but let in the natural light that is healthy for all of us. Letting natural light into your home through a tubular skylight can make you more comfortable to read or see in your home during the day, and happier as your body absorbs the natural light that it needs to process nutrients as well as improve your mood. Installing a tubular skylight into your master closet can help you see the true colors of your clothes, helping you avoid that embarrassing situation of wearing one black sock and one blue sock to work! Let natural light bring out the true beauty of your home décor.

Perhaps you need to your old plastic leaking skylight fixed. We replace the plastic bubble with a new Velux dual pane LoE Glass that stops the heat and pays for it self the first year in energy savings alone. Make the call and “Let America’s Best Light Up Your Life!”

Dear Ray,

The garage attached to my town home gets the full afternoon sun. The temperature in the garage has reached 110 degrees at times this summer. There is some attic space above the front half of the garage and two bedrooms over the rear half, both of which get very warm during the summer. Would an insulated garage door help keep the garage cooler, or is there a way to vent the garage to remove some of the hot air? I have a roll-down screen, but in the summer it does not seem to offer much relief from the heat.
– Pam McC., Largo, Fla.

Dear Pam,

No wonder your garage is an oven. Its orientation couldn’t be worse. As the day progresses and temperatures climb, they often peak between 4 and 5 p.m. This is exactly when the direct rays of the sun are cooking everything they shine upon, including your garage, your home and everything in it.

Add to this the heat from any cars that have been on the road and then are parked in the garage. All of the car’s mechanical parts can be very hot after it has been driven for just 10 or 15 minutes in the summer months. Some parts, such as disc-brake rotors, can easily exceed 250 degrees. The car will radiate heat into the garage for hours after it is parked. If you were to install an insulated garage door and close it, you would trap this heat inside the garage, where you don’t want it. An insulated garage door may be a great idea for other times of year, but in summer it becomes problematic using typical garage door insulation. There are new products available that work very well at www.coolmygarage.com.

Just as the metal parts in your car absorb and radiate heat, so do all of the objects in the garage. Think of how a dying campfire’s embers and the rocks that surround it radiate heat for hours after the flames have died. This low-level infrared heat can be felt inside a garage even early the next day. I know, because my own garage gets very hot in the summer months. Very commonly when I go into the garage in the morning, I notice it’s 10 to 15 degrees warmer than the outside air temperature.

The heat from the garage will absolutely contribute to high temperatures in the attic space above as well as the finished rooms especially in a 2 story home. Hopefully the ceiling cavity between the garage and the finished spaces was insulated. If not, you may want to consider adding blown-in insulation.

To cool your garage as efficiently as possible, you probably will need to install one of our two powerful garage ventilation fans. These fans are designed to pull air through the garage and exhaust it back outdoors or into the attic space. But keep in mind they will rarely, if ever, be able to drop the temperature lower than the outdoor temperature. This means if it is 90 degrees outdoors at 5 or 6 p.m., it will probably be in the lower 90s inside the garage. If it is 90 outdoors, typically it is 110 degrees in the garage and upwards of 140 degrees in the attics.

The fan must have plenty of incoming air to feed their voracious appetites. You will probably have to keep the garage door up off the floor about 4 inches to ensure plenty of air from outdoors is flowing through the garage or install vents in the garage door that we offer. The fans will do the best job of cooling if they are located high on the wall or in the ceiling directly opposite the garage door.

The air stream will seem very cool to you if you stand in it. But don’t think the objects in the garage feel as cool as you do. You feel cool because the evaporating perspiration on your skin is rapidly extracting heat from your body. The inanimate objects in your garage don’t sweat, so they will take a while to cool down. Consider putting the fans on a timer that allows them to run for several hours or use a thermostat to control when they go off. We offer thermostats that will turn the fan on and off at predetermined settings or use the thermostat by pass switch to operate it at your desired times.

March 15, 2005 – America’s Best Home Products, L.C. in Gilbert, Arizona has announced the development and market release of the GF-14 Garage Fan and Attic Cooler, a garage ventilator system.

In hot climates the radiant heat trapped in a garage raises the temperature at least 20 degrees or higher than the outside ambient air temperature. Also, the attic above is as much as 40 to 60 degrees higher than the outside temperature. The attic acts as a super-large radiant heater forcing the air conditioner to work harder. Anything you can do to move this super-heated air out of the attic will lower the air conditioner load, and reduce energy consumption.

Also according to Ray Baxter, president and licensed building inspector, garages are used to store all sorts of noxious substances – paints, gasoline, volatile cleaners etc. And carbon monoxide from vehicles is trapped inside as well. The fumes from these types of residual substances should not be allowed to move into the house. All too often the pressure in the house is lower than the pressure in the garage and the fumes are drawn into the house through cracks and holes or through the door, essentially seeping into the house. The GF-14 refreshes the garage with clean outside air while lowering temperatures in the garage and attic.

The GF-14 Garage Fan and Attic Cooler is designed to mount in the ceiling of the garage, venting to the attic. Properly-sized (HOA Accepted) intake vents are mounted in the garage door taking in outside ambient air. The GF-14 moves 1350 cubic feet per minute, enough air to pressurize a typical attic relative to the house forcing the superheated attic air out the attic vents, which may include gable vents, ridge vents, dormer vents, whirly vents, etc. An adjustable thermostat allows homeowners to decide when the GF-14 should activate for their particular climate or season.

In compliance with local building codes, garages have 5/8 inch fire-rated drywall and a self-closing fire-rated entry door. The UL-listed GF-14 has a fire damper that automatically closes in the event of a garage fire keeping the flames out of the attic. And the self lubricating, continuous duty fan motor stops so it doesn’t feed a garage fire with air.
The feedback from hundreds of installed systems all a crossed the country is very promising states Mr. Baxter. Our customers are very happy, reporting back to us with gratitude that the system is working as intended. Customers are experiencing cooler garages and attics without any roof penetrations. The product sells for an installed price of $595.00 which makes it very affordable. The company has opened a manufacturing facility able to produce 100’s of the GF-14’s per month and is establishing distributors and dealers for its new product.

The company is also working on variations of the GF-14 which will accommodate flat-roofed garages with similar benefits, solar powered garage fans and through wall mounted versions. Rightly called the GF-16 is available as of August 01, 2005 for through the wall installation. Mr. Baxter can be reached directly at 855-431-4326, or via website at www.CoolMyGarage.com or by e-mail ray@coolmygarage.com .
